Brasilia

International
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Pre-K - 12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Bus, parents
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Facilities are good, although the gym could be remodeled. The Center for the Arts is great. There are endless options for extra-curricular activities, all the way from K -12. Club EAB is very comprehensive Check the EAB website to see everything they offer. My Middle School kids did sports, choir, and community service clubs. In HS the possibilities are amazing for a small school like this - the school magazine, sports (of course), jazz ensemble, concert band, drama (amazing), forensics, Model UN, Knowledge Bowl, STUCO, community service activities.. etc etc.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The school is a wonderful warm and inviting environment, in part because Brazilians are really friendly and kind. My kids were young when we arrived, and they never had any adjustment issues at all. We left Brazil in 2008 and my kids miss it terribly. Curriculum wasn't an issue as my kids were young.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The PTSO was super active while we were there, and had a great mix of Brazilian, American and other parents involved.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
It is a wonderful school. My kids wanted to stay there. We moved on to another country, and the first school we enrolled our kids in couldn't begin to compare with EAB. We had to move them, but EAB is the standard for us. In the past EAB had conflicts, apparently between some xenophobic Americans and Brazilians, judging by the other comments posted here. Wow, if you hate foreigners that much don't go overseas! The Brazilians were nothing but welcoming and accomodating to our kids from start to finish. Two points worth mentioning - EAB is really doing amazing things with community service/service learning. It is a real priority of the school, and the SL cooridnator is simply amazing. Also, my kids benefited a lot from the culture of performing - everyone at EAB performs sometime - in school plays, music recitals, art shows, forensics, choir, 5th grade graduation... it is a great way to build self confidence.
