How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

TASIS provides a campus that doesn't feel like a school. The grounds are spacious and include a small pond and several athletic fields. The facilities are dated, but fit perfectly in the small village. A new state-of-the-art addition to the gymnasium and theatre will be complete by the 2002-2003 school year. Extra-curricular activies span the range from athletics to music to drama to academic clubs. All students are encouraged to be involved in the after-school programs.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Because the majority of the families are very transient, the school is very adept at integrating the new kids with the older ones. New students are given a "buddy" for the first couple of weeks. New families are also assigned "buddy families" to ease the transition. Academically, the teachers have been able to assess, rather quickly, the strengths & weaknesses of the newest students are work with them accordingly.

The parents' council provides a variety of informational seminars on a very frequent basis. Repatriation topics are covered through this group annually. Additionally, the administration works closely with the moving families and their needs as they transition into another school.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

In the great spirit of American volunteers, the parents of TASIS work hard for the students and school while at the same time "play hard" with the other families.

Obviously, there is a very active parent-teacher organization at TASIS.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Of course, a personal visit to the school would be in the best interest of any family. Be up front with any concerns you may have about your child.

As with all the private schools we interviewed, TASIS offers virtually no special needs programs for kids beyond mild ADD & Dsylexia.

Until the corporations realize that their employees face a tremendous hardship in this area and push for these private schools to add special needs to their curriculum, unfortunately, nothing will change.

However, TASIS has been very supportive by providing textbooks, counseling and academic guidance to our family which deals with special needs issues.
