How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The facilities at BIS are really impressive. I have children in both Primary and Secondary and they enjoy the facilities there - large indoor swimming pools, good size sports halls and outside play areas, with mini pools/sand pits/climbing frames in the Primary campuses. There is a full sized soccer pitch at the An Phu campuses that is really well maintained. The Secondary has great facilities with a theatre, drama studio, music rooms, ICT suites and art & design rooms. There are lots of extra-curricular activities and parents can sign up their children on-line which is useful.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
We have lived overseas for all of our children's education, but the transition into BIS from a previous international school was very smooth. The teaching staff are very competent, extremely dedicated and are prepared to go the extra mile to ensure that chldren are adjusting well to school life, particularly new children. From friends who have repatriated the transition has been easy, as the school measures itself against UK and World standards. I understand that the school provides classroom allocation for some of the larger nationility groups to conduct community language classes - which would help with the transition back to home country for these students.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The parents at the school are very pro-active. The PTG's (Parent Teacher Group) are very welcoming to new families and extremely pro-active. They work closely with the school to create a positive and strong school community. Country representatives provided who can be contacted by incoming families, they also host new-comers coffee mornings to help people meet established families, they organise social wine & cheese evenings for the parents and family fun fairs. They organise a lot of fun things for the students, such as discos and quizzes and play a huge part in International Day/Week at the schools. There is a strong 'community charity' focus and funds raised from PTG events are directed to school endorsed community projects. A very pro-active and welcoming group.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
BIS is a great school. Academically, in my opinon, they are the best school in Vietnam. They are often the only school to publicise their IGCSE and IB examination results, and the results are a testament to the standard of education provided at the school. We are very happy with education that our children are getting here. I would advise anybody to come and visit the campuses to truly get a feel for the school and what BIS can offer their child.
