What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Sri Omega International School, JB

In what town or city is this school located?

Johor Bahru

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

IGCSE O Level

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

By bus and car. Omega has a good and competent bus system to fetch children within 20 km radius.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The ECA is minimal. The parents like to complain a lot so the school plays safe by introducing soft-activity to avoid unnecessary injury to the student. This is parents own action that result in less adventurous kids, can't blame the school. No scouts, mountain climbing and hiking. The most vigorous sport is ping pong and some basketball.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

If you follow the British system, it is a smooth transition.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The admin is strong and efficient. The school will tackle most of parent concerns professionally. Although there are no parent-teacher organization, but the parents will organized functions among themselves to create bonding among the children. Strong parent to parent connection.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

This is the best value for money international school in JB and it will maintain its lead for years to come. Omega is the only school with about 120 students for year 7 (Secondary 1 enrollment) compared to 15 students for other international school. Since the school has enough students, they can afford to employ good teachers. For English subjects, they have foreigner to teach while other international school uses local which may speak with broken English. For Math and Science subjects, principal has employed the best local teacher which I think may exceed foreigner's standard. The principal is the most experience and respected retired educator in JB. He has the best connection in JB. He has a tuition center which employed tutors, which advises on Government exam. If you look for excellent teachers and good infra support to score well in exam, look no further than Omega. BUt, it is running like a more liberal Chinese School where discipline is more Asian like than a normal international school. Some parents may not like it.
