Digital Nomad Visa for Croatia
Summary: Learn about the Digital Nomad Visa for Croatia and what is involved in obtaining one. This is one of the most important aspects of moving to Croatia as a digital nomad.
Croatia has become an increasingly popular destination for digital nomads, offering a blend of beautiful landscapes, a mild Mediterranean climate, and a relatively low cost of living. Recognizing the growing trend of remote work, Croatia has introduced a specific visa for digital nomads. This visa allows non-EU/EEA citizens to stay in Croatia and legally work for foreign employers or as freelancers serving clients outside of Croatia.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Croatian digital nomad visa, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Proof of work as a digital nomad, either for a company that is not registered in Croatia or as a freelancer with clients predominantly outside of Croatia.
- Evidence of sufficient funds to support their stay. This is typically shown by bank statements and may be around €2,350 per month, but the exact amount can vary.
- A valid passport with at least three months validity beyond the planned stay in Croatia.
- Health insurance that covers the duration of the stay in Croatia.
- A clean criminal record from the applicant's home country or the country where they have lived for the past year.
- Proof of accommodation in Croatia.
Application Process
The application process for the Croatian digital nomad visa involves several steps:
- Complete the application form for a temporary stay, which can be found on the official website of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia.
- Gather all required documents, including proof of work, financial means, health insurance, a clean criminal record, and accommodation in Croatia.
- Submit the application and documents to the nearest Croatian embassy, consulate, or local police station with jurisdiction over your place of residence in Croatia.
- Pay the application fee, which varies depending on the country of application.
- Wait for the processing of the application, which can take up to a few months. During this time, applicants may be asked to provide additional information or attend an interview.
- Once approved, collect the visa and enter Croatia. Within 30 days of arrival, register your address at the local police station.
Duration and Extension
The Croatian digital nomad visa is initially granted for up to one year and cannot be extended. However, after the visa expires, digital nomads can leave Croatia and reapply after six months outside of the country.
