Summary: Our school reviews are a great way to learn about international schools in your future city. One member recently reviewed the Greengates School in Mexico City.

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British

What grade levels are represented at this school?

K - 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Bus, there is a bus fee. The fee includes after school activities transportation. You do not have to pay this bus fee if you do not use the service. It is very well organized and secure.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The school is great. Many international students attend. In comparison with the American School, the activities are basically the same. I have a son in 6th grade and one graduated from Greengates last year. We are very happy that our youngest is challenged intellectually and is growing beyond his peers that attend other schools in the area and that our oldest was accepted at every US University he applied to. The High School counselor is awesome. She guided all the Seniors very well. My son's both play basketball. The oldest played varsity and they compete in the Latin America arena. We sponsored boys from Honduras during the events. My youngest loves after school activities. They have a great rock climbing course, soccer, there are just too many activities to list.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Greengates is more challenging than the private schools we have been accustomed to. They are very aware of expacts and the situations the students are or can become in. They are detailed in the care of the child. My oldest son is currently attending a University in the US. He just finished his Freshman year. He currently has a 3.7 GPA. He is home for the summer and has been enjoying life returning with his high schools friends. Some of the Universities they attend are Harvard, Rice, University of Texas. These are international students so they also go to England, Saudi Arabia, France, Spain and Germany. What is neat is that they are back for the summer.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The PTA is very strong. International Day Fair is the most interesting event that you will see. High School graduation is very respected with Ambassadors as guest speakers. You can get as involved with the school as you want or desire.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Go to the Greengates Website and obtain the application as soon as possible. If you know you are coming to Mexico City, do it now. There is a waiting list to get in. The maintain the Student-Teacher ratios well. It is expensive, but very well worth it.
