Parent's Review of Lycee Francais de Budapest in Budapest, Hungary
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Lycee Francais de Budapest
In what town or city is this school located?
Budapest
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
France
What grade levels are represented at this school?
pre-school to 12th (Baccalaureat)
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Car, bus, walk. The lycee has schoolbuses.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The lycee is currently changing locations.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The French school has traditionally accepted a high number of Hungarian students. Teachers are therefore used to having students with varying levels of proficiency in French (especially in the lower grades when children with little knowledge of French come in) and are able to help them in their switch of educational systems. Students are generally able to become fluent in French quite quickly. However, there is no mechanism to ensure that your child will keep up with American programs.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
There is a parent-teacher organization (l'Association des Parents d'Eleves).
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
My daughter graduated from the lycee several years ago, so my report may not be the most up-to-date. But I can say that she in now perfectly fluent in French thanks to the lycee. The lycee's small size provided a warm environment, as well as an excellent education. We also found that coming from a different system proved to be an advantage when applying to colleges back in the US.
