How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

BMZ is a bilingual school oriented towards Gymnasium with immersion teaching 50% English and 50% German provided by mother-tongue teachers. The school follows the local curriculum and gives intensive support to students, helping non-Swiss children to integrate quickly. BMZ itself is part of Freies Gymnasium Zürich, FGZ which enjoys a longstanding reputation for providing high quality education based on humanistic principles and for focusing on the individual potential of each student.

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Grade 7 and 8. FGZ offers a bilingual continuation with 4 different profiles up to Swiss Maturität.

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

By bus, train and tram.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

At BMZ a canteen offers daily a variety of warm meals. Specialists provide support with homework in small groups. Field trips enable students to work on certain topics with more in-depth focus. Project weeks run on socially relevant themes enabling students to research. Studying at BMZ is brought to a fitting conclusion with a cultural excursion to England.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The focus in this school is different from international schools. BMZ offers students who already speak some English and German the opportunity to develop their language and other academic skills while integrating into Swiss school life, gaining also Swiss friends.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Parents help with serving hot lunches in school canteen. There are Parent's Evenings, Information Evenings on topics of interest to parents, school plays, concerts, etc. There is no formal parent-teacher organisation.
