Parent's Review of Brookhouse School in Nairobi, Kenya

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Brookhouse School

In what town or city is this school located?

Nairobi

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International, British curriculum

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Kindergarten to A-levels (Year 1 - 13)

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

School buses collect children from around the city.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are very good. The school has excellent academic and sporting facilities, and keeps reinvesting in major development projects. Last year they added a large gym and they are building a new primary facility on site at present. Boarding facilities are also very good.

A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered, with emphasis on music, art and drama, as well as lots of sports. They also have the Model United Nations and the President's Award Scheme.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

There is lots of support for children coming from so many different schooling backgrounds. Children who are not first language English speakers are helped to make the transition to the British curriculum, and pupils with extra learning needs are also well assisted. Because the children go on to universities all over the world, the school is very helpful in their applications to university, wherever the child is aiming to study for their degree.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The school keeps parents well updated on school activities through a weekly e-mail bulletin, and there are plenty of events for parents to attend. The Headmaster and staff are very helpful whenever a parent needs advice or assistance.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

It's a very good school and I would recommend it to any parent.
