What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
World International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Brussels
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International - British system
What grade levels are represented at this school?
US grade levels 6-10
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
parent transport or bus
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
This is a very small school. There are no after school activities, however there are sports clubs during lunch. There are also field trips and a class trip. The school has its own gym, art room, music room, and compurter labs.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
My children were enrolled in a highly competetive public school system in the US. They adapted extremely well to World International School, and I believe that their experience there helped them adapt to living overseas. In a small school like World Interanational School, you are only 'new' for a day or two, and then everyone knows you. The teachers also get to know students very quickly and are able to adjust the teaching to the child. The British curriculum that this school follows is very similar to the US curriculum.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
There is a small, but devoted, PTA that organizes some events for parents, studets and teachers.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
It's really worth checking out, especially when price is an issue. I am happy with the level of education my children are receiving.
