Parent's Review of Dubai American Academy in Dubai, UAE
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Dubai American Academy
In what town or city is this school located?
Dubai
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
States in the name it's American, but after spending time there, it's more International then anything.
What grade levels are represented at this school?
K-12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Their parents can drive them, which most do, but at the beginning of this year, there are tons of new buses taking students in from all over Dubai.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Excellent. It's a growing school, which means it will take a while to get a stable sports program going. However, we are part of the EMAC system, and that means we participate in all of the events. To name a few -- soccer/football, volleyball, swim meets, tennis and more on the way. There are nearly 24 different clubs for students to join, including MSF, Operation Smile, the Drama Club, and so on and so forth. Many of the clubs participate in charity events, and donations are sent off to charity.
A fine arts program is also on the rise, with the school sending out many fantastic plays, choirs, and bands.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
There are no programs before being enrolled, and depending on what section of the school you're sent to, it's different. In High School, there are countless friendly staff who are willing to help your child during school, after and before to make sure they are achieving the best they can in their classes. For math there is a tutoring session after school with some of the math teachers, and they are always willing to help out.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Most of the functions are run by the students. There is the DAAPA, which is the parents association, and they have their hands in a ton of programs.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Do it. It's a great enviroment for your child. Friendly staff and students, helpful advisors, and numerous activites for all types people.
