What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Al Bayan Bilingual School

In what town or city is this school located?

Kuwait City

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American-system

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Year 1 -12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most students take a car to school.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

There are two facilities and the elementary school has a lovely facility but is a bit crowded. The high school has a run-down school it bought from the government. The high school has almost no extra-curricular activities; the sports program is very poorly-administered.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The school has no program for transition as the great majority of students are citizens of Kuwait. There are no programs for repatriation for the same reason. There is no real need.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Most parents come from certain families in Kuwait of great importance and they know one another, gossip daily, and visit with one another. There is a board of directors and they are merciless to the foreign hire teachers. Overall, there are no formal organizations for parents.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

If you are going to be living in Hawalli, then Al Bayan is an adequate choice for those wanting an American-system school. The teaching of English is inferior, with a PE teacher as head of the English Department! The math is also of a lower quality than many other schools in Kuwait. So, if you desire is to enter a good college, then this school is not for you. There is no guidance counseling program; the faculty since 2000 has had a great turnover.
