Parent's Review of International School Port of Spain in Westmoorings, Trinidad & Tobago
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
International School Port of Spain
In what town or city is this school located?
Westmoorings
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Pre-k thru high school
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Children who live in the immediate area sometimes walk to school. All other children are driven. Crime is a real concern so driving is preferable.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Facilities do not meet expectations. The school has added a new tent-like gym but the children's play areas are often muddy and swampy. After school activities are treated as babysitting services and too much time is devoted to coping with the children who would really rather not be there.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The school has switched to the International Baccalaureate program and we've found that our child is falling behind his peers back home.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Our coffee mornings usually consist of the Principal fielding complaints about the school and program.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Our experience has really only been with the grade school. Our child is getting behind academically and we've been frustrated by the religious teachings being taught, without parents knowledge, in the youngest grades. Many parents assure us that other International Schools are much better. I certainly hope that is true.
