Parent's Review of ACS in Abu Dhabi, UAE

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

ACS

In what town or city is this school located?

Abu Dhabi

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American

What grade levels are represented at this school?

KG1-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Children who live close to the school walk. Most are driven by their parents, however some are bussed by private bus companies.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities have improved over the past 10 years, with a new elementary building, new gym complex, and new football field. Upgrading on the old facilities will continue when funds are available.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Our children have been going to the school since day one. The school does try to use a "buddy system" for a new student during his first few weeks. As far as formal programs, none that I know of.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is a PTA that offers new parents a way to get to meet other community members. It was more active in previous years. This is because in the past two years the political situation has made it difficult.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Your child should be academically strong because the courses taught are college preparatory. Many struggling students are using private tutors as the system does not offer enough additional help for them. This can get expensive. For those students who are strong academically, the school should be ok.
