Parent's Review of Gandhi Memorial International School in Jakarta, Indonesia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Gandhi Memorial International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Jakarta

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International (IB World School)

What grade levels are represented at this school?

From KG to Grade 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Mostly by private cars, but a lot of them arrive by chartered busses and vans.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

One large auditorium, 2 basketball courts, one soccer field, 1 Badminton court, 1 Volleyball court, 1 net facility for cricket, and 2 Tabletennis tables. Seems adequate for the various sport and co-curricular activities held at the school. There are so many extra activities at the school you cant even keep track of their dates. I think thats the best part of their co-curricular programme. Everyone gets to participate in one thing or the other, based on their interests.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The school follows the IB course for all levels, and the IGCSE Cambridge course for grade 9 and 10. The academics are of the highest standard, and preparation for all national syllabi is possible just by following the IB. Only disadvantage is that the teaching faculty is pre dominantly Indian, and many would expect more western teachers in an international school of the quality of GMIS. Still, the Indians are doing a tremendous job.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The PTA's are fabulous. Very close interaction, and there is total transparency regarding the progress of the child, and what has to be done to futher enhance it. Parents are actively involved in charity programs, and school trips.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Just do it!!
