Het Rijnlands Lyceum International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Oegstgeest

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

International Baccalaureate

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Train, bike

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

In view of distance of 90 minutes to school is unable to attend extra curricular activities at present.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Having changed from the European School in Bergen in Holland from age 6 to 15 years it was very difficult to adjust in all subjects which I found difficult to understand - which was not even recognised in the UK but as the IB has a standard system all over the world it is much easier to adapt to - and if you have to go abroad it is much easier to fall in the IB system.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

They have an international evening which is totally international - we are advised of any other social or cultural functions in the Nederlands. Close contact is kept with parent and teacher.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

From my son's point of view - it's totally international and everyone is down to earth -- students are friendlier, less snobby and as they have mutual respect for each other (therefore he feels no one is bullied) compared to his last school which really had a problem.
