Parent's Review of German European School Manila in Paranaque City, Philippines

Submitted by econcepcion

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

German European School Manila

In what town or city is this school located?

Paranaque City

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Toddler Group until Grade 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

There's a bus service provided by the school and private ones as well. There are also children who are driven to school by their parents.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The school has excellent facilities. Swimming pools, a football field and a gym is available for the students to use. Classrooms are air-conditioned and are updated with the latest pedagogical methodologies. Extra curricular activities include football, wall climbing, swimming, basketball, baking, ballet and dancing to name a few.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The English/European Section part of the school follows the Primary Years Programme of the IBO so I would say yes to this question. The curriculum is quite international and it will help any child transition very well into another international system.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There are quite a lot of social activities where parents can interact with each other and with the teachers as well. I particularly like the Student-led Conference where my child presents her portfolio that shows her work for the entire year. It's a day where the students are in charge of the show and parents are just there to be amazed. There is also the Summerfest where all families come together for a day of fun and festivities in the school grounds.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

If you want an international education for your child, this is a good choice. The school is European and it offers your child the opportunity to learn other languages as well. My child gets German as a second language and will also learn French by Grade 4.
