How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The facilities, while a bit older, have character and are conveniently located. The classrooms are bright and nicely decorated. The facilities are flexible, to meet the changing needs of the school. I have yet to see the new high school's facilities, but believe they will be on the cutting edge of schools here in Hong Kong. Extra-Curricular activities are numerous. There is dance, cooking, judo, additional Chinese language classes, soccer, and numerous other classes. The staff is very open to suggestions for new ideas as well.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
N/A My daughter began Carmel in Pre-K. I believe she is thriving here and is equal to, if not above, her peers back in the U.S.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
There is a very active PTA and numerous opportunities for people to involved in the school. There are social activities for parents, if one is willing to make the effort to get involved.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Carmel has been like a second family abroad for our family. It's a unique school here in Hong Kong, as they balance both religion and academics--and succeed to do so. Our child feels at home at school, is learning much and our choice to have her at Carmel has made our transition her that much easier.
The school's roster changes yearly, as does all international schools here in Hong Kong. Because of that, class size changes year to year. However, the quality of education remains high, nonetheless. I would recommend Carmel without reservation
