International School of Port of Spain

Port of Spain

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American

What grade levels are represented at this school?

k-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Private cars

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

extra curricular can improve and is a bit costly, there are no adequate grounds to play anything other than soccer

Facilities at school are ok, cafe lunch is expensive for what is served.

To many photo copy pages in classroom there is a need for more textbooks

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

american curriculum same as in the US difficult for kids that have a command of the english language then meet tons of gramatical errors from teachers that seem to not understand the proper use of the english language.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Yes there is a PTO but they dont seem to provide much cultural activites of the host country so it was more of the same stuff as in the US coffee mornings and US type events, would of like to see more involvement of local culture to enrich my kids experience of living overseas

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

None if you are an expat coming from the US there is no other school to attend so your choice is limited to this one. For others If you are looking for a cultural experience forget it its non existant in this school it just a typical american school catering for the american populace
