What grade levels are represented at this school?

4-years to 12th grade

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

There are two campuses: K4 to 4th (Komatsushima) and 5th to 12th (Izumi). Most children are dropped off by parents. Some walk and some get a school-provided bus ride to the Izumi campus.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The school is very small. One classroom per grade level, or multi-age classes. However, there is a high student-teacher ratio. There are a few extra-curricular activities: art club, music, martial arts.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The school uses an American-based curriculum with elements from New Zealand and Australia. If a student has special needs then the school will try to accommodate within limits.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

This year there was an English class, quilting group and many informal get-togethers among the parents. There is also a Parent Action Committee that meets on a regular basis.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Be aware that the school is very small, but there are no other international schools in the prefecture. The school has a great heart, and is growing slowly as the community becomes more aware of what TIS offers.
