Parent's Review of Dubai American Academy in Dubai, UAE

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Dubai American Academy

In what town or city is this school located?

Dubai

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

K-11

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Bus/van, and parent drop off, some taxis.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The school has just moved into a new building less than a year ago. It is growing all the time. The pool will be used for the first time at the new site tomorrow! The extra-curricular options are growing each semester. Drama, soccer, baseball, chior, band.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

As this is a very international school, that teaches only an American curriculm, which my kids were familar with. There is less done to accomdate those who are repatriating as most are going back to European countries, or other places where there may or may not be American schools.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is a strong and active parent organization at this school. The school is open, warm and inviting to parents and others.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

State your needs, and you will find a school that will honestly evaluate your needs, and let you know if they can or can not meet them. If they feel this is not the best match for your child, they will help you find a school that is. As they have just been approved for the IB program, this will allow greater meeting of needs of high school students.
