Parent's Review of British Internationa School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
British Internationa School
In what town or city is this school located?
Ho Chi Minh City
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International/British
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Pre-school to Grade 12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Car, bus, walk
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The facilities are adequate although any new investment/improvement is quickly offset by an increase in students.
Not many extra curricular activities aside from after school activities, all major sports activities are organized by the parents and the FOBISSEA league is only for those willing to pay hefty amount of money.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
A lot of talk, not much concrete action. Most teachers are themselves teaching overseas for the 1st time (recruitement level is set at 2 years teaching experience) so no real ability to deal with incoming international students unless originate from the UK.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Very little. Parent-teacher organization is tolerated by the school, no real dialogue with the school, parents are used!
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
This school is more british than international and many local students who lack international exposure are enrolled. This is not an appropriate school for real international students looking for an international curriculum and environment. Would recommend the International School of Ho Chi Minh City as a better choice.
