Parent's Review of Mutiara International School in Ampang, Malaysia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Mutiara International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Ampang

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British Curriculum ?

What grade levels are represented at this school?

all

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Every mode of transport

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

ECA is part of school day on Thursdays. Having only boys I know that football is one of these. They play other schools and the principal really gets into it, with a brilliant sense of humour and encouragement.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The boys have adapted easily but there needs to be a lot more subjects n offer, something the principal is working on but needs a miracle to get past the directors.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

No PTA, very inclusive directors, kids couldn't have halloween party to raise money for prom because it offended the muslims, this is supposed to be an international school, this is one example of the red tape issues here.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Your child will have to take an entrance test, even if English is first language you may be given a conditional place. Directors at work again. The headmaster of senior school is outstanding, full of energy, enthusiastic, fun, fair and if it wasn't for him then I would move my kids, as it is they are very happy, lots of friends. The local teachers unfortunately think it is the 1940's, but the headmaster and expat teachers do encourage individualism so there is way round these little problems.
