Parent's Review of RIS Swiss section in Bangkok, Thailand
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
RIS Swiss section
In what town or city is this school located?
Bangkok
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
Swiss
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Nursery-12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Half of the students live in Mooban Perfect Place which is just behind the school - they walk or go by bike; the other half uses Montri busses with perfect safety and good service
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
It is a small school with a family-like atmosphere. Facilities are good and clean however can not keep up with e.g. Patana (richest school in the world with an airconditioned sportshall?). Afternoon activity cover creative and sportive courses at low extra cost. RIS neighbour school offers additional courses.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
Due to the very good student-teacher-ratio the teacher can focus good on the problems of every single child. If problems occur the teacher will stay in close touch with the parent. No programs for repatriation available, however as the german curriculum developes good german knowledge for the kids, integration is easier as if they would go to an international school and loose their skills in the mother tongue.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Thai language and cooking classes; invitations to important school events (e.g. Loykrathong, presentation of results from project week),parents support the school by organizing "Pausenbrotverkauf" and afternoon courses, parents council, parents are owners of school
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
If you want to go back to Germany, this school will help to keep up with German language as required in Germany. Additionally the integration in the new environment will be easier especially for smaller children, since the spoken language is German. They will learn English anyway due to the international environment at home (neighbours, maid, tv etc.). My three kids are happy.
