QSI Atyrau

In what town or city is this school located?

Atyrau

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American/local /Christian parochial

What grade levels are represented at this school?

PreK - 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Taxi, private transport.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Cramped and crowded. No gym or pool and small shared playground area. No catering provision. Limited extra-curricular activities especially poor for the High School. Student Council offers a few activities for older kids but not enough.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Nothing at all except a few language classes for Italians, Kazakhs and Russians (local teachers with questionable credentials.)

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is a parent group (not parent-teacher)for helping with social events but no real input with administration.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Not good for High School and teenagers as curriculum, class sizes and teaching too restrictive and narrow. If checking out lower school, ask for proof of teaching credentials and language support given to non-English speakers in the classroom. Check out the standard of English of teachers in lower school and also those of classroom assistants. Talk to other parents on a pre-assignment trip. The school is not value for money and unaffordable unless a company picks up the tab for tuition.

Ask for a copy of the school handbook Ask about staff turnover and religious affiliation.

Look closely at textbooks and the so-called 'Mastery' learning system where students can only get an A or a B grade.
