Parent's Review of Emaar International School in Singapore, Singapore
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Emaar International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Singapore
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Kindergarten to Senior High
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Most children take the school bus.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Facilities are good. Swimming pool, playgrounds, everything is there.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
They did nothing at all. My son had only been to kindergarten before. When we came to Singapore, the teachers at EIS recommended that he start at grade 2. We made the mistake to listen to their advice. It was a very tough transition for my son. The teacher expected him to behave like a 2nd grader, even though he had not been to 1st grade. No help was offered. Parent's concerns are ignored by teachers and principals at this school. Nobody listens.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The is a parent-teacher organization. It is not run very well and completely disorganized.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
I made the mistake of sending my two kids to this school for one year and I feel very sorry for having done this to them. The younger one, who went to kindergarten, was fortunate to have one of the rare competent teachers. The older one, who started in grade 2, had a horrible experience, and is still recovering from what he had to go through. The only advise I can give is to stay away from this poorly run, unprofessional organization, where incompetence is the norm, and skilled teachers are rare.
