International American School
In what town or city is this school located?
Alexandria
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
This school is an American Diploma School
What grade levels are represented at this school?

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
There are busses and vans that transport the children to and from the school. The bus drivers are courteous and there are aides on each vehicle. They make sure the children make contact with a caretaker or parent before the children are dropped off.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
This school is a growing school and is rapidly becoming a model "American School" here in Egypt. The children here go on frequent trips. This year, each class took a city of Egypt to study and the classes will visit their city before the end of the year. They also go to Cairo each year to visit different places of interest in the Capital. There are fun trips too, such as trips to Africano and other local places of interest for children. They are currently forming after school interest clubs for next year. Over the summer months, the school will be adding a swimming pool and one of the PE instructors is the swim coach for the Sporting Club.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The best thing I like about this school is that the educational system is truly representative of American education. It is based on the American curriculum standards, with actual current textbooks from the McGraw/Hill publishers. They also teach problem-solving and critical thinking skills here. The children are tested 3 times a year for academic achievement and overall development, in addition to the weekly tests on concepts. Children are taught to process information as opposed to rote memorization.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The parents meet once a month at the PTA and there are two "Tea Parties" throughout the year. Grades are distributed at mid-year and at the end of the year, with a "Tea Party", a time for parents to come and meet with the teachers to discuss any issues, at the first and third quarters. They have an open door policy where parents can call and schedule a conference with the teachers and administration any time they feel it's necessary.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
It's a good school. The principal knows each child by name and somehow knows each family and its situation. She is very caring and demands that her staff educate the whole child. She defends the children as if they were her own and makes sure they get what they need in the way of growth and development. I really like her alot!
