Parent's Review of Rabat American School in Rabat, Morocco

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Rabat American School

In what town or city is this school located?

Rabat

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

PK to 12th

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

bus

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The school was built some 50 years ago and the buildings show it, even if they are very well kept. A soccer field, a basketball court and a pool are available. All the American sports are offered, Art and Band programs are available, sport and field trips are organized.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Although my kids did not need it, the school offers programs to help new children to integrate in the new program.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Social activities (coffee mornings, Saturdays picnics, Sports day) are available. Last year there was also an International Day (stalls with food and handicrafts from the many countries represented at school). Once a month a meeting is organized for El, MS, and HS parents separately, in order to address specific topics of interest.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I would recommend this school. Its size (450 students) makes it easy for everybody to integrate in the new environment, communication between parents and school is smooth, the teaching staff is very good. The students turnover is quite high though, as the school families are mainly from the diplomatic world (embassies, international organizations etc).
