British International School Gdansk

In what town or city is this school located?

Gdansk

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British and International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Preschool to A-Level

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Many parents live in the new buildings next to the school. Otherwise bike and car.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The school has recently moved into a newly renovated building. The school is constantly improving its facilities. For a fairly small school, it has a comprehensive sport programme. It also has very good before-school and after-school support.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The school offers extra language support when it is needed. In general, as the classes are relatively small, each child gets the attention they need, so it has not been an issue.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

This school is the main meeting point in the region for international families, and it also allows developing friendships with some local families too. It is the only school in the region where English is the main language. The school is now growing, so a PTA is now in the pipeline and should be up and running by September 2011.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

With the new premises, the school is set to expand quickly. Since joining the school, our children have made excellent progress academically, socially and in their sports, so we are definitely happy to send our children to the school.
