How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Two years ago the International School of Schaffhausen moved to a new location, a historic building situated on the outskirts of Schaffhausen. The former hostel has been adapted to the needs of a school with modern IT equipment in all classrooms, exciting playgrounds separated for early years and the older students. Recently a modern sports hall and a science lab have been added. Extracurricular activities include after-school clubs, language clubs, sports for both students and their parents. Middle Years students participate in Model United Nations conferences.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The school has a family atmosphere and caters mainly for the expatriate community. Class sizes are small (12-18 students) and generally students settle in easily. Special language support in English and German is offered to new students either one-on-one or in small groups. Teachers and staff have an open door for new parents, their questions and concerns. The active Parent Association welcomes new families and helps them to find their way in school and town.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The active Parent Association (PA) organises extra-curricular events for students of all grades, their parents and families. The PA president has regular meetings with the school's head master, a member of the School Leadership Team is present at the PA-committee meetings.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
My advice would be to come for a visit in an early stage. The school is very welcoming to interested parents. You must feel the atmosphere, meet the staff and see the student's work to really appreciate the school and the town of Schaffhausen. For families this is a perfect place to live.
