Parent's Review of Academia Cotopaxi in Quito, Ecuador

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Academia Cotopaxi

In what town or city is this school located?

Quito

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American / Ecuadorian

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Pre K - 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Bus, private car

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are good. There are many after-school activities but they are of poor quality both in terms of substance and teachers

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

None. My children are still at Academia Cotopaxi but I have heard from many friends who have moved to other posts, including back to the United States who have warned me my children will be behind standards. People who have moved here have had to repeat courses they've already taken simply because the school couldn't accommodate the child in a different subject.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There are many fund-raisers throughout the year and the PTO is becoming more active.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I would advise against this school. The administration is extremely bloated and are merely puppets of the school director. The students are for the most part rude and have no respect. The teachers are primarily short-term (2 years then move on) and the curriculum is in a constant state of flux. The teachers try to do the best they can, but are given zero support from administration.
