Lyford Cay International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Nassau

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

N-12 (age 3-18)

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

The large majority of students are dropped off daily by parents. There are a few private bus services that transport students from around the island, including Paradise Island.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are great. The classrooms all have the latest technology available and are well equipped with great resources. There is a 25m swimming pool, excellent green space, several playgrounds.

There is a wide variety of activities to choose from after-school (most of them are free of charge!) Some students even go kayaking every week!

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

This is the only school that my child has attended (he's only 6), but I believe from other families that there is a program that assists students whose first language is not english.

Some friends of mine have gone on to other countries and found that the transition was easy.

The IB program is very comprehensive.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is an active PTA that organize many social events - bake sales, movie nights etc - and also there are many parties/social events for parents.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Think it is important that you make a point to come and visit and see for yourself if you can. Enroll early.
