Parent's Review of Cambridge English School in Hawalli, Kuwait

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Cambridge English School

In what town or city is this school located?

Hawalli

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Parents are told it is following the British style

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Kg-Year 11

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most children are brought to school by their parents. There are several parents who can walk to the school. Parking is terrible! There are also buses but they are very old and dangerous. There is also fighting on the bus and drivers are not safe.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Not many. there is a library but my children never had any books for reading. My son did not regularly have his ICT lesson this year and swimming in the PE was also canceled often.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

My son and daughter both have suffered from attending this school. I dare to call it a school. The pick up time at end of day is chaos at best. I think the teachers try their best but the condition of the school is not great. The management is uncooperative. It seems like management only care about making money. There is no consequence for bad behaviour at this school. Bad children are no asked to leave the school. My daughter was not comfortable here with very bad boys in her year level. The younger years are not better. Many children can not read or write English. Maybe your child will learn how to fight at this school, that is about it.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There are no social activities. The teachers are helpful but change every year. It makes one think something is wrong if new teachers leave after one year every year.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Do not enroll your child in this school.
