Parent's Review of QSI International School of Ljubljana in Ljubljana, Slovenia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

QSI International School of Ljubljana

In what town or city is this school located?

Ljubljana

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Pre-K to 12th Grade

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Family car. School bus is available.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Very nice, clean, and fresh. Above standard facilities. Very green and natural surroundings in a wooded area. Afterschool clubs meet almost every afternoon with many activities for elementary kids such as copaeira, tumbling, children's ballet, sports, etc... Some sports and craft clubs for older kids. Also ESL and foreign language clubs for small groups.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Following the American curriculum, it is just like home. The organization has 36 schools and the curriculum is also organized by teachers worldwide to give a more international school fit. They are strict about grades; nothing below a B is allowed, however they work very hard to pull the child to standard. Because the school is so much like home, transition seems very easy. They do give a lot of individual attention and test children three times a year base don US testing system.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Our kids stay late every day. The school afternoon is more like a neighborhood. We have a Parent Support Group that meets regularly and communty events like musical picnics, trunk-or-treat, Thanksgiving dinner, big music programs, etc... Our families feel like a small town.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

This school is unique. The teachers and parents work closely together and seem to truly care for one another and of course the kids. The older classes are smaller which parents here love though more middle and high school students would mean bigger sports. They do a lot to make it meaningful for all ages, even though the secondary is smaller. Last year, everyone ended the year loving the school, very satisfied, and still very committed to growing and always improving. It's a great school for both my kids and my family as a whole.
