Parent's Review of Lodge International School in Kuching, Malaysia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Lodge International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Kuching

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International - UK curriculum

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Grade1-IGCSE

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most by private car some use private or registered school buses. Very few walk.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Overall the facilities are fine. There is room for improvement but the school has plans for this over the next year or so. A number of sports are offered with the National school (the branch of the school that caters for local students); uniformed groups (Cubs etc); Art; Drama; Swimming; Tennis etc.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The school is working towards introducing parent volunteers in the classrooms to help with children with language problems. My children have attended the school since Grade 1 so no transition was necessary. The IGCSE offered is internationally recognised. No specific programmes to prepare for repatriation.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Recently a parents group was formed and activities are being planned, low scale at first. This group would be also considered the PTA. The school is managed by a committee comprised of parents.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

It is a good school. Make contact with the teachers and HM, all are eager to help but they are not mind readers - if you have a problem share it with some who can help!
