Parent's Review of Zurich International School in Kilchberg, Switzerland

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Zurich International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Kilchberg

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

7 through 13

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most walk, or parents bring them or take a train and a shuttle bus from the school picks them up and takes them up to the school.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities for the class activities are adequate, however any extra-curricular activities must be done off site. They have been fortunate that some of the major corporations nearby have offered their buildings for this use. The activities include but are not limited to: soccer, swimming, tennis, softball, rugby, skiing, basketball, newspapper, yearbook and many club activities.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Before we moved the headmistress kept in contact with us weekly prior to the move and gave the girls a buddy to contact before the move and after we arrived. They let the girls attend the last few days of school here to meet other students and get acquainted with the actvities there. Over the summer, they were invited to school activities and were kept up to date on the happenings over the summer.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

They have many activities and socials for the parents to participate in as well as get to know the other parents who are in the same situation. They also have classes that parents can attend such as, art appreciation, photography, etc.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

To contact the school to arrange to visit and let them show you and your child around -- and to maintain contact with them before, during and after the move. My oldest is attending the University of Georgia in the Fall and was accepted to almost all the schools she applied too. The academics in this school have really prepared her for college. I'm sure this would not have happened had she stayed in the public schools in America.
