Parent's Review of Infant School (International School) in Saint Petersburg, Russia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Infant School (International School)

In what town or city is this school located?

Saint Petersburg

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

2-4, 4-6 and 6-10 years old

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

The school is located in the center of the city and is within the easy reach. It's up to parents to decide which way of getting to school is more convenient for them. If necessary, the school can help to find a better solution.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

This place is very friendly! You can even feel it in the air. All the classrooms are very cozy. I've noticed that there were special classrooms, for instance, for Arts or the Russian language and literature. Besides the basic subjects the students can study French, Latin, the history of Saint-Petersburg and even take up ju-do.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

As far as I know, it's the only school in St.Petersburg where all the lessons and extra-curriculum activities are held in English. If I'm not mistaken this program is called "School 2100" in the conditions of the English-speaking environment. What I appreciate the most is that the education there follows "The British National Standards". This means that the level of my child's education would be accepted worldwide. In addition to this, the Russian language is also included which makes it easier for foreign children to get used to new cultural surroundings. In the very beginning, we had a free trial week at school where I could spend time together with my child and get an inside look.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Parents can take part in all the celebrations and excursions. There is also a school board.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Here everyone is welcome: the atmosphere is multicultural and English-speaking; As I've mentioned, there is a free trial week; Many tutors have worked out their own methods of teaching; Physical Education classes also include Physical Therapy; The celebrations and concerts held at school are amazing!

I've been to a couple of schools in Saint-Petersburg and this one is really the best! Judging by my kid, the tutors know how to find a mutual understanding with any child and how to make him interested in studying.
