Parent's Review of TLC International School in Muscat, Oman

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

TLC International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Muscat

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Nursery-Year 4

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Car, bus, walk.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Limited. I have noticed there is not much available at the school for children's learning. They are trying to increase extra-curricular activities but the school clearly lacks equipment and facilities.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Nothing much. This is a very average school and we are using it as a last resort while our child is on a waiting list on one of the MUCH better schools (ABA, BSM). The fees are ridiculous for what they are offering - the only saving grace is the British teachers that seem to be increasing every year. The new and only male teacher who started this year is the only person my child mentions and we are also very fond of. Other than that the school will never do well and most of us parents at the school know this place is just a stop-off till we get our children in to better schools here.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Again, nothing much going on. Poor organisation at the school is obvious and there are hardly any events going on. We meet the teachers at the end of school and at parents evenings. I've heard from some parents that they arrange to meet the teachers socially, but that has nothing to do with the school.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Don't bother. I can guarantee the one good review on this school on this site was written by a member of staff. If your company pays for your children to be at this school while you wait for a better school then that is fine. Do not waste your own money on this school though, you are better off keeping them at home!
