How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The kindergarten has grown to 5 groups, which is a good size. Each group has two rooms each, which include area for play, art, learning, reading, sleeping, eating, etc. There is also a sports room as well as a library. There is a kitchen as well as faculty rooms. There is a large backyard with playgrund equipment. Extra-curricular activities include visits to theaters, museums and other cultural events; parties; swimming lessons organized for the kindergarten by local pool; music lessons; etc. The kindergarten is also the partner kindergarten of The Berlin Thunder NFL Europe Team, which means occasional visits from players and cheerleaders.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
As this school is based on bilingualism in German and English, it helps our son to live out both cultures.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The kindergarten started as a parent initiative for bilingual children. Parents, along with a government orginization, have built up the kindergarten according to the needs set by the parents for their bilingual children. Parent-teacher meetings are regular, as well as parent meetings.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
I would advise someone considering enrolling to do it early. Non-German speaking children are supposed to have priority. No German is required.
