The school opened its doors in August 2011 and is hence brand new. It offers modern facilities with the latest educational tools available to both staff and pupils. Song writing, music classes, extra sports classes are on offer and after-care facilities on the premises.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The staff at the International School Breda are very organised and made the initial interactions with the school a real pleasure, from the site visit to the completion of the required forms. All children are motivated to share stories from their home country and big maps of the globe can be found with pictures of children next to their home countries. The school is still small and the children get along very well. This is also due to the innovative way of teaching and interaction between parents, teachers, pupils and other staff, making all new children and their caretakers feel right at home.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
A PTA has not been established, but it is on the cards as the school has been in existence for only a short while. Several coffee mornings, presentations and other events have been organised thus far with speakers and special guests. Organisations are also invited to make themselves known to the parents, such as the International Women's Club. The atmosphere between the parents is friendly and relaxed and several parents'activities have been organised by the parents themselves as well.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Take the time for a site visit and let your child have a try-out in their potential class. You will not be disappointed and can expect your child to be very enthusiastic and ready to start at this amazing school!
