Parent's Review of Istanbul International Community School in Istanbul , Turkey
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Istanbul International Community School
In what town or city is this school located?
Istanbul
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International fully accredited IB school
What grade levels are represented at this school?
PreK to 12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Majority take the school bus.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
IICS has very good facilities including spacious outdoor play areas for the younger children, 2 full size gyms, track field. As they are a part of CEESA they have extra curricular activities for most sports as well as MUN, music and other.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
IICS is very good in helping the students transition easily, they have counselors for this and the teachers are outstanding in helping the students out. Though this did not apply for our children they are very equipped and knowledgable about the transition process.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The school has a very active PTA and all inputs are welcome from the parents. As its a non-profit school the Board of Directors are also made up of parents so this is a big advantage, the Administration and Board will always take into account the parents issues and works hard to solve any matters.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
I would meet with the department heads as well as speak to some of the teachers during the school visit to find out in detail about the curriculum. The school has outstanding teachers and it is clearly one of the best things about IICS. They are caring, kind, very dedicated and allow the students to thrive.
