La Jolla

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American

What grade levels are represented at this school?

from Kindergarden to 5th grade

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Mainly the kids get a strong support from their parents and get a lift every day. However, there are some kids who use the bus.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

In addition to the common facilities the La Jolla Elementary School provided a library, a music teacher (each kid could learn an instrument). Compared to Switzerland the sport activities are a little bit low leveled e.g. a gym-hall is missing and the kids do not change their clothes for sport.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Our two girls were very happy at the La Jolla Elementary School. They were registred in the classes with very experienced teacher.The principale as well as the teachers have a great experience with kid from an other continent and a different mother language then English.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

The parent's support is strongly recommended. There are two main organizations:

"The Friends of the La Jolla Elementary School" and "Parent Teacher Association"

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Do you know Dr. Seuss?

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose!"

Just do it!
