Parent's Review of Osaka YMCA International School in Osaka, Japan
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Osaka YMCA International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Osaka
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Pre school to Grade 6
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Most children arrive by train, the school is actually attached to the station, so you don't even need an umbrella!
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Great facilities! This is the newest International School in the Osaka area, and the only one in Osaka City. It is supported by the Osaka City government, so they didn't spare the expenses. Full size heated swimming pool, purpose built gym, fully air conditioned and heated (unlike other schools where the hallways are freezing) very clean and well maintained.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
No problems for transition. The school is based on an Ontario Canada curriculum, so my kids just picked up where we left off; they even use the same textbook!
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The size of the school really allows for some great friendships between parents to develop. We are always doing something at the school, helping out, informal and organized get togethers. Always lots going on!
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
If you want to avoid long train rides to work, and avoid all the people coughing on you in the winter, then this is the only school for you. It's centrally located, and only a couple of stops from my office. Our condo is right next door!
