Parent's Review of Noblesse International School in Angeles City, Philippines
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Noblesse International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Angeles City
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
American
What grade levels are represented at this school?
PK-12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
van and bus
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Facilities are ok for Pampanga, but not great for the cost. If you've seen IS Manila or Brent, it is really provincial and lacking in comparison. Still, ok for the province.
There are numerous activities, but no solid, regular, seasonal sport teams. Most activities are very informal and year by year. Not many longstanding activities.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
My children left the school to attend a Filipino Montessori school in town. We saw our children slipping compared to neighbors whose children attended the other school. In some cases, the difference was 3 grade levels, which is not acceptable.
I believe that a large part of the problem is that the school is really geared toward Korean students, who make up the overwhelming majority of the student population. This trend has continued with the addition of dormitories for children sent from Korea for boarding. The children are bright, but their language is several years or more behind grade level, which make rigor impossible.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
A good number of parents are very active at the school. The Korean and Filipino parents don't really seem to expect much and are happy because they attend the most expensive school in the area. It is more about appearances than results.
The school has very few American, British, or other western national children, which can make socialization difficult.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
There aren't a lot of great options outside of Manila, but there are some. There are a few schools in the mold of Noblesse that are all about equal in their mediocrity. If you don't plan to send your child to a competitive western university, you are probably ok at Noblesse. Personally, for my family, i don't really like the all talk with no results when i'm paying really high tuition.
In talking with others, I get the impression that there is always new admin or staff claiming that things are now going in the 'right' direction, yet things pretty much stay the same.
Overall, I'd have to recommend giving the school a pass.
