Parent's Review of International School Manila in Fort Bonifacio, Philippines

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

International School Manila

In what town or city is this school located?

Fort Bonifacio

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

K-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Mostly either by private car or school-bus

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Excellent. The school recently moved to the new campus and is very large and modern. The location is excellent, right across 2 other schools, the British school and the Japanese school. Facilities include a world-class swimming pool, 3 playing fields, 3 gyms (Elementary, Middle, High), computer and science labs, an excellent library (with divisions for ES, MS, and HS), a dance room, a weight room, and much more. Extra-curricular activies are plentiful for Elementary schoolers with ISM's after-school activities program ranging from arts and crafts to beginning french and choir. Middle School is when the sports and real clubs start, and high school is a world onto their own. There is an excellent program called the IASAS in which students travel to different countries to compete, and the Model UN team has been to the Netherlands to participate in conferences. There are also honor societies like the National Honor Society, Tri-M, Quill and Scroll, etc.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The children found it easy to adjust to such a welcoming environment. It was not hard at all as they were elementary schoolers. However I feel high schoolers from the US would have a harder time seeing as though emphasis is put on the IB program and not so much on the AP, although it is offered.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Yes, the PTA is very active, organizing events such as Family Fun Day and International Dinners. They've been very welcoming to expats.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Enroll now. Your child could not get a better education anywhere else. Children from this school have graduated and gone to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Princeton, Universtiy of Pennsylvania in the US, and London School of Economics, Oxford, Cambridge in the UK, and dozens of top-rated schools.
