Parent's Review of Elan International School in Los Angeles, California

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Elan International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Los Angeles

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Confused - a little of everything

What grade levels are represented at this school?

PK - 6

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Parents cars

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Facilities are not good not bad - in this part of LA it is difficult if not impossible to find facilities. There is no after school program - some activities are promised but frequently cancelled on the day making it difficult to re-arrange schedules and collect the kids.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

None at all; no, nothing.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Some parents get together but the school has a high turnover and rapid attrition / irritation so few parents put much effort into socializing through the school.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Unfortunately there are few alternatives in the Valley and so this school claims to be something it's not and to some extent succeeds. There are a few very convincing boosters connected with the school's owners. The reality is the school is not good and so concerned parents like us leave quickly; the others see it as daycare and then they leave at the end of the year.
