Parent's Review of Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Garden International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Kuala Lumpur

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Follows British curriculum

What grade levels are represented at this school?

nursey - year 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Bus. The car park is an absolute nightmare. There are not enough parking spaces if you need to go in and collect younger kids. The drivers block the exits so it can take you an hour to collect kids in the afternoon - mornings are not as bad. So many parents ae forced to put kids on the bus - which are archaic, have no seat belts, and poorly skilled drivers. Since this is outsourced, the school take no responsibility for the bus service. (Though paymeent is made directly to othe school!)

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

School has reasonable facilities. Good sport. However kids in the first 4 years are not allowed to take part in any extra curricula activities. The ex-c activities can accomodate too few kids for the numbers in the school - so unless you know someone, are great at pushing and shoving, or camp out at the school each start of term, it is unlikely tat your kid will get to enjoy many of these.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

NOTHING! I have 2 good friends who have kids struggling with classwork and who have been trying for 6 months to get their kids into learning support. 1 of these is in fact a local child. The school keep telling the parents that they will start getting help - but we are 5 weeks from year end and they will both move up and struggle again next year.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

PTF are a place where parents can vent - but even when staff do understand the concerns - the schools management is focussed purely on bottom line and so very few changes are made. Lots of excuses!!!!

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
