Parent's Review of British School Of Brussels in Tervuren Brussels, Belgium

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

British School Of Brussels

In what town or city is this school located?

Tervuren Brussels

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British/International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Pk- 13

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Bus, Trams, Bike, Car

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The school has some outstanding facilities. With iPads and ICT rooms etc.... The sporting is limited at the school though they like to think different. All of the sporting events are run by the parents as most of the PE department staff can't be bothered to give up some of their free time. Their is no swimming pool which you would expect with the fees being what they are. They have been planning to build one, but this has been going on for over 10 years. There is a reasonably good list of clubs, but as I said, Most run by the Parents.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The Curriculum is about the only reason why we have stuck with it. As BSB is the only school in Belgium to offer the GCSE and A-level curriculum we only had one choice. The curriculum is the same back in the Uk, so the transition isn't a problem.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There are things to help parents fit in as a parent, but you do find that people are always leaving the school, which is rather unsettling.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

The school is snobby, boastful, fake.... and the some of the statistics on the website are fake. As it is compulsory to take General studies in the Sixth Form, the website says that 6 people took it, and all got between D & A... I know this is not true as my son took it and knows many people who got E's & F.s, and there are more than 6 people in years 12 and 13! So good luck if you send your child here.
