Parent's Review of Escola Americana, Brasilia (EAB) in Brasilia, Brazil

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Escola Americana, Brasilia (EAB)

In what town or city is this school located?

Brasilia

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Pre-K throught 12th Grade

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most kids take a bus or have a driver that can take them, but you can walk as long as you live in some of the embassies nearby.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are poor but improvements are being made. The extracurricular activities are plenty but some of them are too expensive. The school participates in many sporting tournaments in other states and sometimes even in other countries. The sports practiced include Basketball, Soccer, Volley, and Futsal (indoor soccer). There is no dress code and unlike what the other person said there is almost no discrimination, in fact the school board is made up of 50% Brazilians and 50% Internationals so the Brazilians do not have control over the school and the Brazilians have never done anything to harm the Americans or to any one in that matter.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

This is an American school and it runs on the american system.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Yes there is a PTSO

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Its an american school with mixed numbers of Brazilians and Internationals (but there are more Brazilians, of course) it allows people from all over the world to have a qualified education and it gives them good college opportunities and unlike what the other guy said the Brazilian kids are not allowed to speak with impunity and although it is encouraged that you speak only English they do allow you to speak any other language as long as its in break or lunch time or you are in a foreign language class.

Do it. There is absolutely no discrimination, the person who wrote the other report obviously holds some sort of discrimination over Brazilian people. My kid joined back in 1997 and he has never complained. The Brazilian kids always treated my kid with respect and never ever made fun of him because of his nationality. When 9-11 happened no Brazilian said that we got what we deserved, in fact they were more than sad and never ever have I or my kid heard the phrase "you got what you deserved". Me and my kid are happy that we joined this school and the Brazilians have always been nice and warm towards us and never have we seen or been discriminated by them.
