Parent's Review of American School of Brasilia in Brasilia, Brazil

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

American School of Brasilia

In what town or city is this school located?

Brasilia

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American

What grade levels are represented at this school?

preK- 12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

There are embassy buses for bums like us and there are buses for other people, or most Brazilians have drivers.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

There are not that many facilities (it is a small school) but they have just built an auditorium. There is something called EAB which has extracurricular activities that you pay for, which are mainly for little kids. There are also several sports (including cheerleading) and the drama club. So, relevantly this school doesn't have many e.c. activities, but students find themselves dedicated to usually more than one (as teachers need a certain amount of people to make certain clubs/ teams possible ).

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

No. New kid orientation. That's it.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Yes. But I don't know much about them, except that these organizations have been struggling

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Don't do it. Okay, maybe you could - there is a very close international community that goes there, and are friendly. But there is also a major schism between the internationals and the Brazilians at the school, which is why the school board can't accomplish anything and why the school is slowly going broke.
